Storage Pricing

Compare cloud object and block storage costs across AWS, Azure, GCP, Cloudflare R2, and Backblaze — plus local NVMe and HDD market prices per TB for bare-metal and GPU server builds.

Object Storage

S3-compatible stores for unstructured data. Key metric: $/GB/month + egress cost. Cloudflare R2 offers zero-egress pricing.

Block Storage

Persistent disks attached to compute instances. High IOPS matters for databases and ML checkpointing. Billed per GB provisioned.

Local NVMe / HDD

For bare-metal GPU servers, local NVMe is 5–10× cheaper per TB than cloud block storage — at the cost of flexibility.

Cloud Storage

Object and block storage — AWS, Azure, GCP, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze

Watch out for egress fees. Moving data out of AWS, Azure, or GCP typically costs $0.08–$0.12/GB. On 100 TB that's $8,000–$12,000 in transfer alone. Cloudflare R2 charges $0 egress; Backblaze B2 charges $0.01/GB.

Prices are list rates for us-east-1 / eastus / us-central1 as of 2026. Egress fees shown are standard internet transfer; transfer within same region is often free or lower. Block storage prices are per GB provisioned per month.

Local Storage — NVMe, SSD & HDD

Market prices for drives used in bare-metal GPU servers and workstations. Sorted by $/TB.

Buy vs. cloud storage breakeven: A 2 TB consumer NVMe (~$130) costs the equivalent of ~4.7 years of AWS S3 Standard at $0.023/GB/mo — after which your cost is $0. For hot data that never leaves your rack, local storage wins decisively.
